It’s Always a YOU Year!

Note to Self: It’s Always a YOU Year!

After the fun of ringing in the New Year, it’s exciting to begin TODAY fresh, as the clock starts on another great

Year of You!

Ten years into my speaking career, I made a new year’s resolution. After being known as a “tech guy” I felt I had more to share from all I’d learned. I was ready to create NEW experiences, share new ideas, and get involved in new opportunities. So I quietly tested my plans, designed new marketing and courses, then RESOLVED to make the changes official.

One day, I took the small step of updating my signature from “Speaker” to “Philosopher” in an email exchange with a client. After some back and forth, he wrote:

“I see you have updated your signature.”

“Yes,” I replied cautiously. “I’m trying to let people know I’ve got more to offer than before. Do you think it’s too risky?”

But he didn’t respond.

Minutes passed, then an hour. I thought for sure, “He’s thinking of a nice way to tell me it’s silly…” Another hour passed, when my inbox rang with two sentences:

“I think it’s freakin’ amazing! It’s exactly what you’ve been doing all along!”

A moment before I was a speaker: safe and comfy in my decade-long habitual cocoon. An email later, I was at the start of a new adventure. It took a friend to point out I was already on the path. I hadn’t needed a “resolution” or calendar date to get started. I just had to tell myself:

It’s not a new “message” that starts the next growth. It doesn’t depend upon when a new tool or tech or slogan or service is ready to go. It’s not a new market or customer or competitor or trend that creates the moment.

When it’s time for a NEW anything, what’s needed one minute after midnight is the most important ingredient of all:

You, being you, doing you!

I hope you’re excited for what’s to come this year. Without a doubt, you’re ready for it: Show up and keep growing. Don’t worry about being ready for everything, because there’s one thing that’s READY FOR ANYTHING:

And it’s always been YOU!
