One of the things I'm finding with Twitter is that people are actually not "retweeting" a lot of the tweets I post, or even replying, but they are tweeting from our blog. It seems like it has become more of an "announcement" or "hey, look at this" service that has replaced what we used to do when we "forwarded an email" to a hundred friends..... maybe that will turn out to be useful, but not sure.

Similarly, what's really getting me concerned is that SO MUCH EFFORT is going into social media sites that are WALLED OFF from the rest of the web. Many good ideas might be discussed or posted - and images and videos, too - that just aren't available on the WEB. So we're creating subsets of the web and it's going to dilute our marketing efforts (or worse, influence/control them). Same with Twitter - a lot of effort goes into it, but very little by way of sustained value (compared, for example, to blogging...)

Thanks for your comment. I think we're on the same page!

Matthew, I think this is right on target (along with the initial post from 2009). Twitter probably has value for large retail corporations - but in the end do I (or anyone else) really care what Toyota is tweeting about - get a life. It probably also has value to media people who are looking to "influence" people. But real estate?

I am still a believer in the website (really!). That when people begin searches they go to Google and type in XXX real estate. If you don't appear here - you are not serious about online marketing and lead generation. That is why its too bad we now have to compete against all the zillows, truila, etc for this valuable space. Blogging is critical - but most don't have the skill or stamina to sustain it. FB, if tied in properly, can be an asset as well. But Twitter......
